Giovanile Orchestra di Fiati 2025 - XXX edition

Art. 1 - The courses

The courses of the Giovanile Orchestra di Fiati (Youth Wind Orchestra) di Ripatransone are open to instrumentalists of any nationality who certify the participation requirements and will be held in Ripatransone (AP, Italy) from 20 to 26 July 2025.

This year, to celebrate the thirtieth edition, a third concert will be held at which musicians who are not registered for the training week in 2025, but who have participated in at least one edition in the past, will be able to play as guests.

Art. 2 - Course structure

The courses of the Giovanile Orchestra di Fiati di Ripatransone are developed in three study paths, and it is possible to enroll in more than one of them:

  1. Orchestral training course (see art. 3)
  2. Instrumental course (see art. 4)
  3. Conducting course (see art. 5)

Art. 3 - Orchestral training course

Art. 3.1 - Minimum participation requirements

Qualifications acquired abroad will be evaluated according to the regulations in force in their countries of origin.

Registrations will be closed when the maximum number of instrumentalists is reached. In the event that multiple registration requests have arrived before the closing date, priority will go first to those registered who have chosen to take both the instrumental and orchestral courses; subsequently, a ranking will be drawn up based on the qualifications presented at the time of the Application for Participation (with a refund, for those excluded, of the participation fee, if already paid) giving priority in any case to instrumentalists born after 31/12/1997.

The director will assign the first, second, third and fourth parts on the basis of the qualifications and/or through an audition.

Art. 3.2 - Minimum and maximum instrumentation
  • 1 piccolo
  • 2/4 flute
  • 1/2 oboe (or soprano saxophone)
  • 1/2 bassoon (or tenor saxophone)
  • 1 E-flat clarinet
  • 9/12 B-flat clarinet
  • 1/2 bass clarinet
  • 2/4 alto sax
  • 1/2 tenor sax
  • 1/2 baritone sax
  • 3/6 french horn
  • 5/8 trumpet/cornet
  • 3/4 trombone
  • 2/4 euphonium
  • 2/4 tuba
  • 4/6 percussions
Art. 3.3 - Materials required for the course
Each student, percussionists excluded, must provide their own instrument. In case there are more options, such as flute and piccolo, clarinet and Eb/bass clarinet, alto and soprano/tenor/baritone sax, trumpet and cornet, trombone and euphonium, the student must agree with the organization and/or the instrument teacher which instrument to bring. The percussion instruments will be provided on site; the percussionists must bring the various sticks and mallets usually used (for snare drum, timpani and keyboards), and a training pad with stand.
 
Art. 3.4 - Hours

Rehearsals will be:

  • Sunday 20 July at 5.00 pm
  • Monday 21 July at 5.00 pm
  • Tuesday 22 July at 5.00 pm
  • Wednesday 23 July at 5.00 pm
  • Thursday 24 July at 10.00 am (dress rehearsal)
  • Friday 25 luglio at 10.00 am (rehearsal for the thirtieth anniversary concert)
  • Saturday 26 luglio ore 10.00 (dress rehearsal for the thirtieth anniversary concert)

The concerts will be held in the evening (usually at 9.30 pm).

Art. 3.5 - Concerts

At the end of the Courses, three concerts will be held. The first two, at the end of the training course, will be on Thursday 24th July in Ripatransone and Friday 25th July in Montefiore dell'Aso; the third will be again in Ripatransone, on Saturday 26th July, dedicated to the thirtieth anniversary of the Orchestra and with a repertoire partly different
from the first two. Participants must wear appropriate clothing for the concerts [see the FAQ for more information].

Art. 3.6 - Study Program

The Orchestra's study program will be selected from the following pieces (based on the available instrumentation):

The final program for the concerts will be selected from the pieces listed above only after registrations have closed, based on the number of soloists and conductors and based on the ensemble.

Art. 3.7 - Selection of soloists

Each student may ask to perform, at the final concerts, a solo piece from those listed in art. 3.6. The organization reserves the right to choose a maximum of 4 solo pieces from those listed. The soloists will be selected based on the ranking in art. 2 and an audition to be held on Sunday 20 July in Ripatransone. The solo parts for each instrument are available by clicking the links above.

There are no solo pieces for saxophone, euphonium, tuba and percussion, as they have already been performed in the 2023 and 2024 editions.


Art. 4 - Instrumental Courses

Art. 4.1 - Structure of the instrumental course

The instrumental improvement courses will be held with the following teachers:

The instrument lessons will be organized at the discretion of the teacher between the morning and the first part of the afternoon. For the precise organization of the lessons, the students will be contacted directly by the teacher.

Art. 4.2 - Selection of the students for the instrumental course

For each instrument class there is a minimum and maximum number of participants. If the minimum number is not reached, the course will be cancelled, with a refund of the fees possibly paid; once the maximum number is reached, registrations will be closed.


Art. 5 - Orchestral conducting course

The course will be structured on two levels: basic level and advanced level.

Below is the lesson schedule for the two levels:

Advanced level students will conduct the Orchestra for one piece at the two final concerts; they will then be involved in the Orchestra rehearsals referred to in art. 3.4.

Art. 5.2 - Selection of students for the Conducting Courses

There are no numerical limits for participation in the basic course and for any listeners, while it is limited to 8 students at the advanced level.

For conductors enrolled in the Advanced Conducting Course, in the event of enrollments exceeding the maximum number, for a profitable training activity, enrollments will be accepted following the ranking based on the date of sending the application for participation (postal sending and/or filling out the online form) and based on the artistic curriculum presented. Enrollments for the course may be closed before the deadlines indicated in art. 9.

 


Art. 6 - 30th edition concert

At the 30th Edition Concert, in addition to the students enrolled at the courses of the 2025 edition, musicians who have participated in at least one of the past editions of the GOF may join the Orchestra. Participation is free, but necessarily requires attendance at the two rehearsals on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 July at 10:00. In order to join the Orchestra, it is still necessary to send the application for participation (see art.9).

  


Art. 7 - Participation fees

Once registration is complete and the minimum number of participants is reached, the organization will communicate the payment methods.

The participation fees are divided as follows:

  • Both orchestral training course and instrumental course - € 170,00 *
  • Both orchestral training course and basic percussion course - € 140,00 *
  • Orchestral training course only - € 70,00 *
  • Instrumental course only - € 120,00€
  • Basic percussion course only - € 90,00
  • Conducting course (basic) - € 90,00
  • Conducting course (advanced) - € 150,00
  • Conducting course (listener) - € 50,00

Students enrolled in ANBIMA Ascoli Piceno have a €30.00 discount which is integrated by the same ANBIMA basic unit.


Art. 8 - Accomodation

The affiliated structure for accomodation is the Casa per Ferie delle Suore Teresiane

Prices are as follows:

  • overnight stay with breakfast: 30,00€
  • half board (overnight stay, breakfast, one meal): 40,00€
  • full board (overnight stay, breakfast, two meals): 50,00€

The prices shown are per person. For coordination reasons, the organization will take care of the reservation at the Casa per Ferie (which therefore does not have to be done independently) and the possible pairing of more students in the same room.

It is not necessary to communicate at the time of registration whether meals will be used; however, each morning the presence for meals of the same day must be communicated via an attendance sheet found in the canteen.

At the end of their stay, each student will settle their fees at the facility, without going through the organization.


Art. 9 - Application

The application form (available on this page: Iscrizione GOF 2025) must be sent by June 20, 2025; if an adequate number of participants is not reached by the deadline, the course will be cancelled with the possible refund of the fees paid. If the orchestral ensemble is not completely covered, the organization reserves the right to contact any necessary instrumentalists directly.


Art. 10 - Application acceptance

Acceptance of the application for participation in the orchestral training course will be communicated via email. If such communication is not received by 10 July 2025, the application will be considered rejected due to lack of requirements or ranking (any sums paid will be refunded).


Art. 11 - Certificate

Each student will be issued a certificate of participation.


Art. 12 - Responsibility

The organization declines all responsibility for any damage or accident to persons or things, both during the trip and for the entire duration of the course. In the case of minor students, the parent authorizes the minor to enter and exit the course spaces independently and exempts the organization from the responsibility connected to the obligation of supervision.
